Description
“When looking at the city, we might unconsciously direct our attention to the sense of smell rather than to the one of sight.
This multi-screen installation work is composed of the fragments of memory of the city as the ‘eye of the city’. The eyes taken on the world should peel off the surface of the city while the sense of smell should build up the new depth. In this work, the trace of memory and perception would reconstruct the city while concrete images are abstractly and poetically translated.
People say that recollection by the sense of smell is more vivid in comparison with other senses and that it is related to more emotional memories. But the sight of this scentless reconstruction of time of the city could stimulate your nerves, which could create your own imaginary scent.
And when you smell imaginary scent, what on earth does it remind you of? That might be a recent sentimental recollection in the city, a delightful memory in childhood, or an experience you will have in the near future.” (Ryoichi Kurokawa)
