The festival is spread out over the city, and is explicitly center-less. Cimatics does not offer a hide-out in a big central venue, instead we try to guide you through the city. The speeded up Flu Power Flu neon-installation near the Beursplein/Place de la Bourse functions as the geographic point of reference for the citywide festival. 700 meters to the North-East of that, at the Rue de Laeken/Lakensestraat, you'll find the 'Festival Meeting Area', with the Meeting Point at Bunkerhotel, the Festival Shop at M'atuvu and the exhibition space MediaRuimte.

installation
A city map of Bonom's endangered species. After extensive excavations, Brussels archaeologists have managed to establish a map of Bonom's fossile paintings... Photo archives on the map will help you to better recognize them or imagine the ones who disappeared.

installation
As a soundscape for the meeting point we connect to the sound-stream of KRN in Dakar. What we hear is the sound of the streets in Dakar, captured through an open window. Additionally we set up our own Locus Sonus stream box, sending out the meeting point noise.

installation
A big pile of white straws invites passengers to take a seat.
Byram has a healthy and insatiable fascination for cultural viruses and flickering forms of communication. For Cimatics he installs a huge straws couch. The big pile of white straws invites passengers to take a seat, and by this actively repurposing a daily commodity. Reflection upon mass-production, recyclage and waste... art, design and happiness.

Timecast #8

Each month Time To Express presents TimeCast, a podcast show hosted and curated by Yves De Mey and Peter Van Hoesen. They made a Cimatics festival edition. Listen and download at the meeting point.
We asked T2X to dedicate a Timecast episode to this festival edition, so Eavesdropper combined his favorites from the Cimatics 2009 line-up in a compact mix. If you think of the festival's history, you'll definitely notice the evolution from a strict visually based concept to a broader media and arts gathering. And that's how this episode connects to the festival, combining cinematic compositions with pure dance floor killers and experimental sound art. Use this mix as your audio guide while wandering through the streets of Cimatics or as a the soundtrack for your warm-up exercises before diving into the nightly mayhem.
